Known as the Great Gravity Clock, this 52foot kinetic timepiece is one of only three in the world. It’s a colorful, energetic way to tell time that combines science and whimsy into one unique immersive sculpture. It’s hypnotic watching the colorful balls clank, swoosh, and dart around as the time passes by.
The sculpture uses a pulley to feed colored balls into rail systems that move through the atrium sized clock. As the balls spin around, the clock face reflects the time attributed to the number of balls in specific spots on the rails.
Because the clock uses balls to represent units of time, it is considered a digital clock. It’s also the largest kinetic energy sculpture in Florida.
Stand in the front of the clock and watch time pass as the colorful balls move through the rails all around you. The unique time telling device is an engaging way to learn more about kinetic energy.
