If you have a surfing bucket list, there’s a very good chance that Nias is on it. If it’s not… well, it should be.
The wave, of course, is in Lagundri Bay on Nias, the picturesque little island off the western coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. The wave changed after the earthquake in 2005, but not for the worse. On October 16, a fun little swell snuck in and made for a fun session with just a handful of surfers out.
“How was the last swell in The Lagundri Bay, Nias?” Rawfiles wrote on YouTube. “The wind unfortunately was not making it easy, but not a big crowd and some decent tubes made the trip worth it, surely if you were in Indo!”
When it gets big, the wave that breaks there is no joke, but on swells like these, the Average Joe can have a great time without fearing death… too much, anyway.
