“It’s already a swell bender,” announces Nathan Florence at the top of his latest video, after opening with a montage of him and his brothers charging a series of heart-stopping Pipeline slabs.
“We thought we were just getting an October swell, but it’s doing the same thing it did last year,” he continues. “These really fun days, where it’s still eight-foot, solid Pipe and Backdoor. Not crazy huge, but day after day, consistently waking up, looking at the Surfline forecast and it just showed four days in a row of epic, fun little days.”
Of course, “Fun little days” has a different meaning to Nathan Florence than to the rest of us. The casual description belied the thundering waves that came back on screen for the rest of the video. Though it might be a casual romp for the likes of Florence and co., to anyone else it would be anything but.
That’s also true for the murderer’s row of Pipeline chargers that joined them out in the water. In the video, the usual suspects all showed up to greet the winter waves, as the Florences were joined by Mason Ho, Michael Ho, Koa Rothman, and many more.
Seems like a good omen for the season to come.
