The Inertia

It’s Halloween, and one of the best parts of the holiday is seeing what everyone’s costume was. The first of the surfing community was Mason Ho, who took to the waves in a Joker mask to celebrate the season in his latest YouTube video.

Despite the impracticality, there’s a proud tradition of surfing in costume. A surprising amount of it happens in the winter, due to a bevy of surfing Santa events, including Cocoa Beach’s absolutely massive holiday gathering. However, October also brings out droves of masked rippers, with a lot of the pros opting to get in on the action. Hell, boutique wetsuit makers like Jonesea have made festive surfing garb a year-round affair.

Mason Ho typically goes minimal with his outfits. The last time we saw him do it, he donned a pumpkin head for a Halloween night surf. This time, he slapped on a mask of The Joker from Batman, and went out for a jaunt in a North Shore lineup.

However, while the effort is appreciated, it still pales in comparison to the absolutely insane episode of the Batman TV series, which featured an honest to goodness surfing competition from the eponymous hero and his arch nemesis.
