Wave pools are popping up all over the globe, and with each passing year, the waves they create are better than the last. Riyue Bay Surf Resort, located in Wanning, on Hainan Island’s southeast coast, just released footage of what they’ve created with American Wave Machines technology, and it looks good. Especially the air section, which was absolutely destroyed by Ryji Masuda.

Like most wave pools, the resort isn’t only a wave pool. It also boasts a surf-themed hotel — which, if we’re being honest, could be hard to create without feeling cheesy — and a retail zone. Riyue Bay is uniquely suited in China as the location of the pool, since it’s basically the middle of the Chinese surfing scene and the home of the national surf team.

Using a hydraulic system with 30 pneumatic chambers, the pool can make waves up to 9 feet high. Rides last around 15 seconds, with a new wave generated every six seconds. Like other pools, the waves can be changed depending on the user’s desires.

“The opening of Riyue Bay Surf Resort not only introduces a new category of surf-inspired hospitality to China but also marks a new chapter for Wanning’s growing surf community,” wrote Riyue Bay Surf Resort. “As a showcase property along the Hainan Coastal Scenic Highway, the resort is set to elevate the region’s tourism appeal, attract trend-setting travelers from around the world, and contribute to Hainan’s vision of becoming a leading international leisure and vacation destination.”

It’s slated to open to the public on November 11th, so they’re in the final stretch. Which, of course, includes a few lucky surfers who get to test the waters.
