
A wave pool announcement is a familiar story at this point. The facilities are cropping up across the globe with increasing regularity, each one promising customizable waves paired with luxury amenities. So that’s what makes the uniqueness of The Wave Source so much more incredible.
Located in a backyard in Arizona, The Wave Source is a scrappy DIY project built over four months. Awareness of the pool exploded when Ben Gravy visited in September. Now, with rumors of a new location opening “somewhere in the continental US” within the next six months, Gravy has returned to get some more info on the crazy project.
“I’m just grateful that the damn thing works,” said Wave Source co-creator Tony to Gravy, when asked about his reaction to the pool’s reception online. “Hopefully what I’ve done will bring a lot of joy to a lot of people.”
Gravy then proceeded to delve deeper into the actual logistics behind bringing that joy. Turns out it took proprietary technology, DIY spirit, and a bunch of shipping containers.
