Three people are dead and 15 more are injured after Spain’s Canary Islands were hit by a massive tidal surge with powerful waves.
According to reports, all the accidents occurred over the weekend. A man and a woman were both killed near La Guancha, Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz de Tenerife after strong ocean surges dragged them into the sea. A third man was found deceased in the water off a beach in Granadilla. Fifteen more were hurt in four separate incidents on Tenerife the day before.
Although authorities had warned people prior to the weather event, the advisories weren’t enough to sway people from getting a close up view of the wild waves.
