The Inertia

El Salvador is not an easy place to explore. There are less than 200 miles of coastline along the Pacific, but much of it is backed by dense jungle. Those jungles, though, hide countless waves that go unridden. But Kai Lenny wanted to ride them.

He, along with Naxto Gonzalez and brother Ridge Lenny, headed to Central America despite Kai saying that “I didn’t think waves in Central America could get that big.” Sure, he knew they could get pretty big, but “big” is a bit of a relative term when Kai Lenny is using it. And he knows enough to know that he needed some people who knew what he didn’t know.

“While bringing a hunger for adventure and all the necessary tools of the big wave trade is the first step,” Red Bull wrote, “locking in a crew of local chargers is the key to unlocking the Salvadoran shoreline.”

And so they explored. They searched for waves, hope in their hearts, and they were rewarded for their efforts in the best way possible: with insanely good waves.

“On the right conditions,” Kai said, “it could be a Namibia right.”

But they weren’t quite done yet — they’d heard about a mystery wave from a local and decided they’d better check that out, too. And that one? That was better than the last.
