Geocaching is the world’s largest treasure-hunting adventure, dating back to when the first geocache was hidden and logged in Beaverton, Oregon, in 2000. Since then, millions of people have searched, logged, hidden and created caches across the globe.
Today, there are more than 3.3 million active geocaches spread across 191 countries on all seven continents. The one in Colby, Kansas was placed there on May 11, 2000, making it the seventh geocache ever recorded and the first in Kansas. Since then, the six earlier caches have been retired, leaving Colby the proud inheritor of Mingo, the world’s oldest active geocache.
