Padang Padang. It’s the wave so nice they named it twice. It’s one of the best waves in an area chock full of best waves, and on October 4, Padang Padang flexed its considerable muscles.
“The key on this day at least was to sit on the inside, closer to the channel than the pack, but for a few surfers it worked out really well,” Surf Raw Files wrote on YouTube. “A west swell and a low tide in the afternoon made Padang Padang a great choice to surf, although the big sets were really slow, some surfers managed to get a few ‘small but spicy’ waves on the inside.”
Padang Padang is generally regarded as one of the best left-handers in the world. It’s a bucket list wave for most surfers. The Bukit Peninsula is a good place for waves because those southeast trade winds blow off shore. When a west swell appears in the water, the offshores can blow the waves into walled up perfect barrels. And the barrels on offer there are, simply put, incredible.
The video you see here was filmed over the course of two hours, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., and it was an afternoon no one in the lineup is going to forget for a long time.
