In the middle of the main roundabout in the centre of Kutaisi sits the Colchis Fountain. The design of the fountain is inspired by famous gold jewelery discovered at archaeological sites throughout Georgia, unearthed from the former Kingdom of Colchis, and consists of 30 different statues. Atop the fountain are two horses, said to belong to the legendary King Aeëtes of Colchis.
Around the fountain are sculptures of animals once sacred to the Colchians: a lion, a ram, a tiger, a sheep, a mountain goat, and a deer.
The fountain adds a fun and playful centre to the town and also lights up at night to give the fountain a mystical appearance.
The fountain was unveiled in 2012 and was created by Georgian architect David Gogichaishvili.
