Tucked away in the charming town of Lake Placid, Florida, Toby’s Clown School is a joyful oddity that takes the art of clowning very seriously, red noses and all.
Founded by a jolly jokester named Keith “Toby” Stokes back in 1993, this delightfully offbeat institution started with hospital visits and balloon animals, but it quickly grew into a full-fledged foundation that trains new clowns and spreads smiles, love, and laughter across Florida. And yes, you do get an “official” diploma for a graduating from the school. A degree from Toby’s may not get you a job at a fortune 500 company, but the heart behind the mission is priceless.
For the curious and the brave, Toby’s Clown School and Museum is open to the public and absolutely worth the detour. Inside, you’ll find over 700 pieces of clown memorabilia—think vintage figurines, oversized shoes, autographed clown portraits, and enough painted grins to make your inner child do a double take. There is also a gift store offering clown-themed costume wear and décor for purchase.
It’s quirky, it’s heartwarming, and it’s one of the few places where you can earn a degree in ridiculousness.
